ALR Committed to Driver Excellence
5/29/2007 4:08:46 PM
ALR-Alternative Labor Resources, Inc. completed a 5th wheel driver training seminar today. Dave Smiley, Kris-Way’s Safety Manager, gave a detailed demonstration and review of proper coupling and uncoupling procedures.
Each driver was instructed on the proper operation and functions of the 5th wheel assembly. Specifically, each driver left confident that he could verify when the coupler assembly was in the latched position. Other items covered where:
- What is the difference between a 5th wheel and coupler plate?
- Where should the coupler plate meet the 5th wheel plate as you approach your trailer hookup?
- How do you know if you’re coupled correctly if it is dark out?
- When do you use your deflation on your tractor suspension?
- How often do you lube the 5th wheel or coupler plate?
- What should you do if you uncouple from a trailer when you thought you were coupled?
